Somatics, or awareness of the body, can be a key to exploring how patterns of tension and stress are held in the muscles. Through bringing awareness to the wisdom of the body, many people find increased capacity for relaxation. When anxiety and repetitive thought patterns leave you stuck in your head, remembering the body, breathing, and slowing down can help.

Sensory processing involves understanding the specific way you embody consciousness, psychosomatically. We will explore the sensory aspect of self soothing as well as your patterns of activation or dissociation in order to support you to move through emotional blocks and process anxiety. I support people to become curious about their nervous system response to trauma, anxiety, or depression. Understanding if you are in a “fight, flight, freeze, or appease” state can help you learn to regulate your nervous system and reduce your stress response.

The etymological root of the word trauma is, “tere,” to pierce or wound. Trauma responses live in the body like unexpelled fragments. My approach uses awareness of somatic patterns of holding tension as a guide to providing language for experience. To express in words what you feel in your body offers release. We will create a safe container to acknowledge and allow feelings and somatic experience. This process allows for catharsis and acceptance to enable possibilities for new responses.
